Bela Lugosi as Dracula – "Dracula" (1931)
2014. Acrylic on panel. 5 by 7 inches.

lugosi/dracula
When I think of Dracula, or vampires in general, Bela Lugosi as Dracula is the character that comes to mind. Mr. Lugosi created the screen persona that many other actors tried to imitate. Oddly enough, he only portrayed Dracula in a film one other time, in an Abbot and Costello movie. And he almost missed that casting because he was erroneously presumed dead!
Of all the true horror films, Dracula is my favorite. And what better time to remember and honor Bela Lugosi for his tremendous contributions and impact on the horror film industry than at Halloween.
Bela Lugosi, the true Dracula.
